Chang Xiang Fashi

Venerable Chang Xiang first encountered Buddhism through the writings of Master Sheng Yen and participated in the first “Life-Awakening Camp” in 2004, personally led by Master. This experience deepened his engagement with Buddhism and ultimately led him to leave home and undertake monastic practice.

He has held various positions related to meditation practice, including serving as the managing director of DDRC and at the Lamp-Transmission Institute in Taiwan. During the pandemic, Venerable Chang Xiang initiated the “Meditation Hall in My Home — Dharma Drum Mountain Online Meditation” video series, fulfilling a long-held aspiration to promote group Chan meditation sessions via the internet.

Before returning to DDRC, he served for five years as the managing director of the Dharma Drum Mountain San Francisco Center. Following Master Sheng Yen’s example, Venerable Chang Xiang is dedicated to sharing the Dharma and Chan teachings with Western practitioners, helping them develop a correct understanding of Chan and refine their method of practice.
